Sharing the Stories of our Doctors in Celebration of National Doctors' Day

As Hippocrates said, “wherever the art of medicine is loved, there is also a love of humanity.” We agree that doctors reflect a love of humanity and are the source of much empathy, innovation, and meaningful change. This National Doctors’ Day we are reflecting on how our doctors from the Transcarent Clinic exemplify these qualities and how they impact our organization, our Members, and the healthcare industry as a whole.

Caregiver, healer, innovator: just a few ways to describe doctors and their invaluable role in our lives and our society. Most enter the profession for altruistic reasons1 – to help people2, save lives, and cure diseases. As Hippocrates said, “wherever the art of medicine is loved, there is also a love of humanity.”

We agree that doctors reflect a love of humanity and are the source of much empathy, innovation, and meaningful change. This National Doctors’ Day we are celebrating how our doctors from the Transcarent Clinic exemplify these qualities and how they impact our organization, our Members, and the healthcare industry as a whole. It’s the perfect time to shine a light on their excellence as it also happens to be the one-year anniversary of 98point6 joining Team Transcarent.

We’re honored to hear from some of our Transcarent doctors, in their own words, about why they practice medicine, how they’re fulfilling their dreams, and what it means to them to be able to make an impact on the lives of others. Thank you to our Mina Obbehat, MD; Noble Jacob, MD; and Olga Mejia Martinez, DO for sharing your stories.

Mina Obbehat, MD, Medical Director and Family Practice Physician, The Transcarent Clinic

"It’s a joy to practice at the top of my impact and that’s what I’m able to do at the Transcarent Clinic. We’re not only healing ailments, but we’re making a real impact in healthcare; an impact on the individual Member and the system. I’ve dreamt of being able to help people as a doctor since I was a candy striper at 9 years old. I imagined owning my own clinic where I could innovate for the better, and truly do things differently in a way that would make the biggest impact possible. It’s a dream I’m sure many of my physician colleagues have shared, but the reality of the healthcare system in the U.S. makes that dream difficult to realize. Fortunately for me, Transcarent has provided me with that opportunity. Here I feel like I have my own practice that allows me to grow as a professional – while being supported by the highest-quality colleagues from across the country, and the most innovative technologies available. I have the flexibility to create my own schedule and truly turn off when I’m off. This is essential to managing burnout and to being the very best I can be for myself, my family, and our Members."

Noble Jacob, MD, Primary Care Physician, The Transcarent Clinic

"When I was a kid, I had a passion to be a doctor so I could help people. I looked up to my uncles who were doctors and dreamed of being just like them. I was inspired by the type of care they delivered, connecting with people in their houses, in clinics, and in the hospitals. However, recently I came to the realization that I no longer want to do what they were doing – because it’s simply not possible in today’s world. My heart is in the same place, and I still strive to be as caring and compassionate as they were – but I want to practice the type of medicine my children need today and will need in the future. I want to make it easy for them to get the high-quality care they deserve. It’s also important to me to be able to reach people across the country who have barriers to accessing care, who are battling stigmas, or have issues with the affordability of care. At the Transcarent Clinic, I’m able to do this. I’m able to thrive at delivering the highest-quality care to Members across the country on their own terms and connect with them in the way that’s best for them. Transcarent gives me the autonomy, reach, and resources to fulfill my dream of truly caring for people, being active in my community, and pursing activities that bring me fulfillment personally."

Olga Mejia Martinez, DO, Primary Care Physician, The Transcarent Clinic

"Practicing medicine at the Transcarent Clinic has been transformative. I’m able to balance my professional life with my family life without having to sacrifice one or the other, and I’ve felt a joy that I haven’t experienced in more than a decade. From my home, I’m able to deliver the high-quality care and 1:1 attention that helps relieve Members’ concerns - any time of the day. I can be confident addressing individual needs across the spectrum as I’m always connected to our team of experts across specialties. Our collaborative environment is enormously satisfying. Our team thrives on ensuring our Members receive on the spot, personalized and professional care from clinicians with a wealth of experience, when they need it most. This helps avoid PCP, urgent care, and ER visits when there are conditions we can safely treat virtually. Not only does this help our Members, but it also reduces the overall burnout on my colleagues working in those brick-and-mortar clinical settings; thus, reducing the burden on the entire healthcare system. At the Transcarent Clinic, we are making a difference in the lives of our Members and are helping to drive meaningful change in the system. Knowing this is empowering and uplifting, and it drives me to continue to practice at the top of my clinical skill and training."

We know that every doctor has a personal story behind their inspiration to pursue the practice of medicine. At Transcarent, we’re honored to be a part of that journey and to provide the platform, technology, time, and resources for them to achieve their dream and practice at the top of their impact. It’s a privilege to celebrate the work of all doctors this National Doctors’ Day!
